Medical Care

The doctor holds surgery every Thursday morning at the surgery in Espinama, next to the new church. Emergencies are dealt with in Potes and more serious cases are attended to at the Sierrallana Hospital in Torrelavega, serving the entire Liébana district. The nearest chemist is in Camaleño, about eight kilometres from Espinama.

Banking facilities

The Banco de Santander cashier point is available in Fuente Dé.
The nearest banks are in Potes.


 


Church Services

Espinama
The parish is led by the Franciscans from Santo Toribio de Liébana Monastery, whose Prior, Victorio Zabalgogeascoa, acts as parishioner and ordinarily holds mass on Sundays at 10:45 a.m. In exceptional circumstances, the Priest Juan José Caldevilla, a local from the Town Council area currently finishing his studies in Salamanca, may stand in for him. In this case, mass is held on Sundays at 12:00 a.m. The bells are rung three times, with a few minutes between each toll, to announce mass.

Pido
A Franciscan from Santo Toribio holds mass on Saturdays, at the San Roque hermitage, fortnightly at 17:30 p.m.

Home-made Cheese Shop

The Peña Remoña Cheese Shop in Pido, apart from the famous Pido Cheese, makes fresh, cured and smoked cheese in the style as it used to be made in Áliva Pass, with a blend of cow and goat milk.

 


Mobile sales

Bread: every day except Sundays, several travelling breadsellers visit the towns and villages in the Town Council area.
Fruit: on Tuesdays. The fruiterer usually arrives in the afternoon.
Fish: on Friday mornings.
Frozen foods: one day per week.
Ice-creams: in summer, the ice-cream van usually arrives on Sunday afternoons.

Fuente Dé Cablecar

Managed by Cantur, with cafeterias at the stations on the peak and at the foot. Non-stop daily service from 9:00 to 20:00 hours.
